The state of Eritrea is a North-eastern African country. Agriculture is the biggest contributor to the countrys economy, providing a livelihood for about four-fifths of the population. The sector also contributes to r a large portion of Eritreas exports. Until recently, the countrys borders were closed restricting trade relations to a major extent. BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN ERITREA

Eritrea is reopening its borders and restoring trade, transport and telecommunications links between the neighbouring countries and important trading partners in Europe and the Far East. This has given opportunities to foreign investors for starting businesses in Eritrea. One can find investment opportunities mining, agriculture, tourism industry and manufacturing industry. Other viable sectors for investment are textile and leather manufacturing industries and packaging industry.

EXPORTS AND IMPORTS IN ERITREA

The country mainly exports minerals (zinc, copper and gold representing 98.48% of total exports) and textile products and primarily imports machinery (16.27% of total imports), cereals (10.69%), vehicles (6.14%), electrical appliances (5.47%), wheat, iron, food preparations, rubber, furniture, plastic and medicines (ITC, 2021).

TOP EXPORTS OF ERITREA

The country majorly exports gold ($265M), copper ore ($172M), zinc ore ($153M), silver ($1.13M), and non-knit mens shirts ($1.13M) to United Arab Emirates ($266M), China ($264M), South Korea ($45.6M), Malaysia ($14.8M), and Italy ($1.58M).

TOP IMPORTS OF ERITREA

Eritrea mainly imports wheat flours ($39.5M), delivery trucks ($17.2M), sorghum ($15M), rubber tires ($12M), and raw sugar ($9.52M) mostly from eritrea ($78.4M), United Arab Emirates ($77.4M), China ($70.5M), Italy ($30.1M), and United States ($18M).
