L’Oréal to Launch First-ever Paper-based Cosmetic Tube in Collaboration with Albea
French cosmetic giant L’Oréal has collaborated with global packaging firm Albea to create the first-ever paper based cosmetic tubes.
This move comes as an effort by L’Oréal to reduce its impact on the environment caused through its packaging material.
L’Oréal officially announced this on their website and also stated that it was “committed to reducing our environmental impact and
improving the footprint of our packaging”. The cosmetic brand said that they, along with the packaging firm aim to replace majority of the plastic used in
their cosmetic packaging with nature-friendly and certified paper-like material.
Now, the impact of this new packaging innovation on the environment will be evaluated via Life Cycle Analysis which is the most advanced tool used to assess environmental impact, L’Oréal stated on its website. Both L’Oréal and Albea are signatories to the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, initiated by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a UK-based charity.
Philip Thuvien, Vice President of Packaging and Development at L’Oréal said that this initiative will take the brand “one step further” in its efforts to be more eco-friendly in its operations. It is since 2007 that L’Oréal has been conscious about its environmental footprints and has been striving towards making the world a better place, environmentally.
They will launch these eco-friendly cosmetic tubes through its launch of skincare products, set to launch in the second half of 2020, said Thuvien. LÓréal in the recent past has made a lot of commitments to become a better and environmentally conscious brand. It has done so by participating in various global summits conducted by the United Nations to battle climate change and to create a greener planet.
